The Department of Foreign Languages is a general department of the Institute that trains highly qualified officers for the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations. The main emphasis in the training of specialists by the teaching staff of the Department is on improving the language competence of specialists, bringing it in line with international standards and modern needs to ensure the language compatibility of command authorities, units and subunits of the Armed Forces of Ukraine with military formations of international organizations and NATO partner states in the framework of international cooperation activities.

Training is conducted in following academic disciplines: Foreign Language, Foreign Language (military special training), Professional Foreign Language, Business Foreign Language (for adjuncts). The task of the Department when learning a foreign language is to develop professionally oriented cross-cultural communicative competence among cadets. This competence is the result of interaction and complex implementation of a number of competencies, namely, the development of general academic competence, the formation and development of linguistic language competence, the development of foreign language communicative competence, the development of socio-cultural and pragmatic competencies. These competencies form the professional communicative competence of a cadet (student, adjunct) who is able to take a direct part in solving important problems and professional tasks in a foreign language.

Research and teaching staff of the Department ensure high-quality practical classes using modern educational and methodological complexes.

The Department has 9 lecturers and 2 laboratory staff who provide the educational process.

The Department pays considerable attention to improving the skills of teachers and their professional self-improvement. The main areas of scientific research of the Department are: linguistic, methodological and pedagogical bases of interrelated training of various types of speech activity, ways to improve the vocabulary of the language, psycholinguistic aspects of improving the effectiveness of teaching foreign languages, improving professionally-oriented foreign language training as a factor of improving the efficiency of employees.

Classes will be attended by pre-registration, which is open every Friday at the Department of Foreign Languages in the Study room. Place of classes – Room 206.

ELPIC (English Language Proficiency Improvement Course) The training course for improving foreign language competence of the military personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (hereinafter – the AFU) to achieve SMP-2 in accordance with the NATO standard STANAG 6001 (English Language Proficiency Improvement Course, “ELPIC”) (hereinafter - the course) is developed as an auxiliary tool for improving foreign language competence in the absence of interaction with the lectuter. The course is experimental.
