The cadets of the Institute took a prize in the competition of NATO programming specialists - "TIDE Hackathon 2019"

As part of the implementation in Ukraine of the project on exchange of experience and knowledge of the NATO Trust Fund on Modernization of Command, Control and Communication system, teams of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations took part in the NATO programming competition "TIDE Hackathon 2019", which was held from 24.02. to 01.03.2019 in Warsaw, Republic of Poland.

13 teams from 5 countries, including the Netherlands, Turkey, Germany and Poland, took part in this year's competition. Four teams from the Ukrainian delegation participated in the competition for prizes, in particular:

team of the Armed Forces of Ukraine "MITI Hedgehogs" of the Military Institute of Telecommunications and Information Technologies named after Heroes of Kruty,

"SBGS" team of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine,

"Black Thunder" team of the National Guard of Ukraine,

"#Code_Defenders" team of the Institute of Special Communications and Information Protection NTUU "Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute”.

All these teams were participants in last year's Ukrainian defense hackathon "UKRAINIAN DEFENCE HACKATHON".

"TIDE Hackathon 2019" was held with the aim of developing innovative solutions on the organization of the Alliance management system, the basics of defense and operating planning, identifying the key needs of the management system for ensuring of the decision-making, as well as for ensuring the information quality and protection, prospects for development and implementation of information technology during joint operations, to ensure compatibility between members of the Alliance, the creation of software products, to analyze the situation in the light of mine, social, criminogenic, operational situations.

The hackathon was held in the format of competitions in three categories, with two prizes:

Modeling – developing of a model based on a given data set that can be used to forecast, where demining activities are a priority over current demining activities and the possible impact of current and future activities in the direction of cooperation with humanitarian organizations.

Coding (programming) – developing of a software application, artificial intelligence module, or developing an algorithm based on a given data set that can be used to predict zones, where demining activities take precedence over current demining activities and providing assistance to the commander in solving the task of prioritization of demining operations by providing the commander with complete information on the situation in a particular region.

Visualization (programming) – developing of a software application, based on data and analyzed information collected during the large-scale NATO exercise Trident Juncture 2018, for its visualization, in order to provide information on the consequences of communication efforts, information environment, and information environment modeling in order to achieve strategic communication goals.

According to the results of the competition, the first place was taken by the team from the Polish Armed Forces, fifth-year cadets of the Military University of Technology.

The honorable second place in the coding competition was taken by the team from the Armed Forces of Ukraine - third-year cadets of the Faculty of Information Technologies of the Military Institute of Telecommunications and Information Technologies named after Heroes of Kruty, consisting of: Dmytro Teslov (captain of the team), Dmytro Rumsha and Ivan Kyka.

The winners of the teams were awarded with commemorative diplomas and with the awards from NATO and the Polish Armed Forces.
